The Historic Pact, President Gustavo Petro’s coalition, elected 13 senators in the March 8 legislative elections and became the only group with a female majority in the Colombian Senate.
Of the 25 seats won by the coalition in the Upper House, more than half will be occupied by women. According to the electoral results, 43.3% of the senators elected in the country belong to the Historic Pact.
Among the senators elected for the coalition are Carolina Corcho, Carmen Patricia Caicedo Omar, Laura Cristina Ahumada GarcÃa, Aida Yolanda Avella Esquivel, Yuly Esmeralda Hernández Silva, Sandra Claudia Chindoy, MarÃa Eugenia Londoño Ocampo, Kamelia Edith Zuluaga Navarro, Yaini Isabel Contreras, Isabel Cristina Zuleta, Deisy Johana Osorio Márquez, Deicy Alejandra Omaña Ortiz (Amaranta Hank) and Mary Jurado Palomino.
In the Chamber of Representatives, the government bloc also increased its female presence. At least 15 women from the Historic Pact were elected, in a universe of 183 seats contested between all parties.
Despite progress, women will continue to be a minority in the Colombian Senate. For the 2026-2030 legislative period, female representation should reach around 30% of seats in the House.
The 108 senators and 188 elected representatives will take office on July 20, 2026, when the new legislature begins.
