The Iranian media reported, this Sunday (8), that Iran’s Assembly of Experts defined who will be the successor to supreme leader Ali Khamenei, killed in a bombing by the United States and Israel at the end of February, shortly after the attacks on the Persian country began.
The name of the successor, however, has not yet been disclosed. The official announcement of the chosen one should be made soon by the head of the Assembly of Experts secretariat, Hosseini Bushehri. Iran’s Assembly of Experts is made up of around 88 high-ranking clerics — elected by popular vote.

Last week, a few names came to light as possible replacements. Among them, Mojtaba Khamenei, son of the slain leader; Hassan Khomeini, grandson of the founder of the Islamic Republic, Ruhollah Khomeini, and Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei, head of the local judiciary, among others.
Since the start of the offensives, the US and Israel have sought to weaken the country by attacking its main leaders. Died on February 28, Ali Khamenei had been the country’s supreme leader since 1989.
According to Iranian authorities, more than 1,300 Iranians lost their lives during the attacks, of which 30% were children — one of the targets of US and Israeli aggression was a girls’ school, which resulted in the deaths of 171 children on the first day of the attacks.
