Meeting in Switzerland will discuss solutions to the war in Ukraine, which completed 27 months on May 24th; Russia will not participate

The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, invited this Sunday (May 26, 2024) the presidents of China, Xi Jinping, and the USA, Joe Biden, to participate in the conference to be held in Switzerland. The objective is to negotiate peace in Ukraine.

In a video recorded in English and published on his profile on X (formerly Twitter), the Ukrainian leader appears with debris in the background. Despite mentioning the presidents of China and the USA by name, Zelensky says that the message is for all heads of state who have not yet confirmed their presence at the conference.

“I appeal to the leaders of the world who are still on the sidelines of the global efforts of the Global Peace Conference – to President Biden, the leader of the United States, and to President Xi, the leader of China. Please show your leadership in advancing peace. Real peace, not just a pause between attacks.”disse Zelensky.

In the message, the president of Ukraine also attacked the Russians. According to Zelensky, Russia is led by men who have “pleased to burn” and in destroying national borders through war.

The meeting that will discuss a resolution to the European confrontation will be held in the city of Lucerne on June 15th and 16th. Switzerland invited 160 delegations, but did not invite Russia. According to the host country, Moscow showed no interest in participating. In the video, Zelensky states that 80 countries have already confirmed their presence.

Russia, in turn, responded that a conference to negotiate peace in Ukraine is “impossible” without the participation of the Russian government. Moscow also said it did not trust Switzerland as a neutral country to host the meeting.
