Venezuela continues to receive international aid to recover from the destruction caused by the earthquakes that hit the country on June 24. This Saturday (11), the interim president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, visited a field hospital offered by Qatar located at the National Experimental Security University (Unes), in Caracas, the Venezuelan capital. The country has 13 field hospitals offered by international solidarity, according to the government, which estimates that more than 86 thousand families were treated in almost three weeks after the tragedy.

This Sunday (12), a cargo plane carrying 25 tons of supplies landed in the country from Russia. Supplies include medicine, food and household items. Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil thanked the donation in a post on the social network X. He informed that the distribution will be made through centers organized to protect the affected population.

According to the Venezuelan government’s latest report, 4,333 people died as a result of the earthquakes, 16,740 were injured and 856 buildings were damaged, 190 of which completely collapsed.

In a press conference, Jorge Rodríguez reported that 17,907 people remain homeless, while 18,437 are housed in 94 temporary camps set up in Caracas, La Guaira and Miranda.

The government estimates the need to build at least 25,000 homes to serve the affected population and reported that the first 200 homes should be delivered next week. The goal is to vacate schools converted into shelters by September or October, before the start of the next school year.

The housing plan foresees the construction of transitional housing, the purchase and completion of existing properties and the creation of new urban complexes designed to resist earthquakes. The government also announced that it intends to reform rental legislation to encourage the occupation of empty properties and open subsidized lines of credit for purchasing homes.
