Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov declared this Thursday (10) that Ukraine “opened Pandora’s Box” with attacks on civilian targets, which, according to him, resulted in the intensification of counterattacks in the Black Sea region.
“Russia did not initiate [os bombardeios a navios]. I would like to recall President Putin’s statement, which stated that we did not launch attacks. Only after the Ukrainians began attacking our civilian infrastructure and economic targets,” Peskov noted.
The Kremlin spokesman emphasized that the Russian Armed Forces will continue to attack merchant ships in the Black Sea, which would be used to transport weapons and resources for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“A large number of commercial vessels are used to transport weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine. These vessels will continue to be destroyed,” he said.
At the same time, he added that the intensification of attacks on maritime infrastructure will not have negative consequences for relations between Russia and Turkey, an important player in the Black Sea region.
Peskov further added that the Ukrainian side’s proposals do not imply a long-term solution to the conflict that would satisfy Russia’s interests.
According to the spokesman, the situation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the battlefield continues to deteriorate. “The situation on the ground has gotten much worse for Ukraine and is getting worse every day,” he added.
Last Tuesday (8), the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and the President of the United States, Donald Trump, discussed the outcome of negotiations on the Ukraine war during the visit of US presidential special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, in Moscow and Kiev in recent days.
On Wednesday (9), Donald Trump said that Russian President Vladimir Putin is seeking an agreement to resolve the situation in Ukraine, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky should do the same.
“President Putin wants a deal. If Zelensky wants it too, that would be very good of him,” Trump told reporters.
Furthermore, Trump did not rule out the possibility of organizing a trilateral meeting with the leaders of Russia and Ukraine. “It’s possible,” he added.
Continuity of attacks
This Thursday (10), a new Ukrainian drone attack was reported that hit the coastal region of Sochi. An unmanned vessel exploded, injuring 28 people.
The attack began around 9pm yesterday (9), Moscow time. Witnesses reported shots coming from the sea and loud explosions. The attack also hit the Primorskaya Pier in the center of Sochi.
In the Sumy region, a drone attack on a shopping and entertainment center killed two people and injured 20, according to Oleg Grigorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration.
Last Wednesday (9), Russian troops launched two drone attacks against Kiev, damaging multi-story residential buildings. One person died and 16 were injured.
