Vietnam’s Foreign Minister, Le Hoai Trung, concluded his visit to Havana as special envoy of the general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (PCV) and recently elected president of the country, To Lam.
According to the Vietnamese press, the trip aimed to inform the Communist Party of Cuba about the results of the XIV National Congress of the PCV, in addition to discussing forms of cooperation between the two parties and countries.
During his stay, between June 20th and 22nd, Le Hoai Trung met with various party leaders and Cuban government authorities, including the president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel; the Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz; and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla.
Furthermore, he presented the results of the XIV Congress of the PCV at a conference organized by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba. Based on the documents approved during the Congress, it exposed the main theoretical and practical aspects of the Renewal (Doi Moi) process oriented towards socialism over the last 40 years, as well as the socioeconomic achievements achieved and the results of the implementation of the Resolution of the XIII Congress.
The Vietnamese leader also detailed the objectives, strategic guidelines and priorities approved by the XIV Congress to advance towards the development goals established for 2030 and 2045. Commenting on the recent comprehensive transformation measures approved by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and the National Assembly of People’s Power, he stated that he is confident that the country will be able to overcome the current difficulties and will continue to promote its revolutionary process for the benefit of the well-being of the population.
Le Hoai Trung’s visit took place after the approval, in Cuba, of a broad package of economic and social reforms. According to Cuban authorities, several of the transformations currently underway are based on the experience of Renewal (Doi Moi), which began in Vietnam in 1986.
“The Vietnamese people are guided by a spirit of brotherhood and will never leave Cuba alone,” said Le Hoai Trung during his meeting with President Miguel Díaz-Canel, according to local press. The Vietnamese chancellor also highlighted the interest of businesspeople in his country in investing in sectors with the potential to expand bilateral cooperation.
During the visit, he learned about several projects with the participation of Vietnamese capital in the industrial, food production and renewable energy sectors. He also visited the Special Development Zone of Mariel, where he closely followed the operations of ViMariel SA, a Cuban company with Vietnamese capital in operation since 2019, operating in various areas such as construction, energy, health, logistics and telecommunications. Furthermore, he was in areas of the province of Pinar del Río linked to a joint project between Cuba and Vietnam focused on rice production.
This rice production project is the first agricultural initiative to operate under an investment model with 100% foreign capital and is part of joint efforts to strengthen food production on the island.
Currently, Vietnam is the main investor in Asia and Oceania in Cuba, with strategic projects in sectors such as food production, renewable energy, manufacturing industry, trade and financial services.
