To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the South Liberation and national reunification of Vietnam, which took place on April 30, 1975, in addition to the 135th anniversary of the birth of President Ho Chi Minh, on May 19, 1890, the Vietnam Embassy in Brazil held a commemorative event in Brasilia on Monday (28).
The activity highlighted both historical achievements and Vietnam’s advances and ambitions today, with emphasis on the growing role of the country on the international scene.
Vietnam, which maintains diplomatic relations with 194 countries and integrates 19 free-trade agreements, is an active member of global organizations such as the United Nations (UN), the WTO (World Trade Organization), the IMF (International Monetary Fund) and the Asean (Southeast Asian Nations Association). Its foreign policy is guided by the principles of independence, peace, solidarity and integration.
In his speech, the Vietnamese ambassador in Brazil, Bùi Ván NGHị, paid tribute to the legacy of Ho Chi Minh, visionary leader of the revolution and national unification.
The diplomat stressed Vietnam’s continuous commitment to the principles of freedom, justice and sustainable development, also highlighting the importance of qualified youth and technological advancement as pillars for the country’s future.
In addition, the ambassador stressed Vietnam’s desire to share his experiences in areas such as agriculture, circular economy, green, digital technology and telecommunications, promoting an inclusive and sustainable development model.
In the economic aspect, Vietnam currently occupies the fourth position among Asean’s largest economies and 32nd in the global ranking. With impressive growth of 7.09% of GDP in 2024 – one of the highest global rates – and controlled inflation below 4%, the country has been vigorous in the economic scenario. GDP reached $ 476 billion, with per capita GDP over $ 4.7 thousand. Foreign trade reached $ 786 billion, with a commercial surplus of $ 24.77 billion. Vietnam also stands out as one of the 15 largest direct foreign investment destinations, with US $ 38.23 billion in registered capital.
Friendship Ties
Closing his speech, Ambassador Bùi Ván NGHị reiterated Vietnam’s friendships with Brazil and Latin American countries, noting that the Asian nation is a reliable partner for economic and diplomatic cooperation. “I wish you all and their families health, happiness and success,” he said.
Eduardo Saboia, Secretary of Asia and Pacific of the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also expressed his satisfaction in participating in the celebrations. Saboia highlighted the historic visit of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to Vietnam, held last month, as a milestone to strengthen friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
During his visit, Lula emphasized Vietnam’s transformation and reinforced the country’s position as a strategic partner for Brazil, especially in the Southeast Asia region. Savoy also announced his farewell to his office, thanking all his friends in the region and passing the bat to Ricardo Colleto, who will assume his role.
The good of humanity
In turn, Pedro Oliveira, president of Abraviet (Brazil-Vietnam Friendship Association), quoted Ho Chi Minho’s famous phrase: “Confucius, Jesus, Marx and Sun Yat Sen have something in common: everyone wanted the good of humanity”.
For him, this view synthesizes the ability of Ho Chi to join opposites – east and west, reason and heart, tradition and revolution – creating bridges for freedom and progress. In referring to the United States Declaration of Independence and France’s Declaration of Human Rights in the Vietnam Independence text, the Vietnamese leader reaffirmed the universality of the ideal of freedom, which continues to inspire peoples to this day.
The ceremony of celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the reunification of Vietnam was marked by the spirit of cooperation and friendship, with the commitment to continue to strengthen economic, cultural and political ties between Brazil and Vietnam in the coming years.
