The Armed Forces of Ukraine carried out a new drone attack in Russian regions in the early hours of Monday (24), hitting several facilities belonging to the e-commerce company Wildberries and Ozon. In the Krasnodar region, two children died in one of the attacks.
Krasnodar Region Governor Veniamin Kondratyev said “drone debris” fell on a private children’s center. Another seven children and two adults were injured.
It was also reported that drones hit logistics centers of retail companies Ozon and Wildberries in the Samara and Orenburg regions, as well as the southern regions of Krasnodar, Makhachkala, Adygeysk and Nevinnomyssk.
Ozon’s press office reported that there were no victims in Adygeysk and Nevinnomyssk, and the facilities and goods inside were “in order”. However, several people were injured in Makhachkala and received medical assistance. The attack on this target caused a fire at the site. The warehouse is not receiving deliveries and the goods stored there will be unavailable.
Wildberries distribution centers in several regions of Russia have been frequent targets of drone attacks since mid-July. Attacks by Ukrainian military forces against Ozon warehouses took place for the third consecutive day.
Kremlin reaction
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the recent attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces this Monday (24), stated that Ukraine feels the consequences of its actions every night and will continue to feel them.
“Here it is important to remember the president’s words: you opened Pandora’s box and now you are receiving the answer,” declared Peskov, referring to a statement by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Peskov noted that attacks on Russian commercial infrastructure do not change the situation on the front lines. According to him, the government is monitoring the situation after the attacks and, together with companies, is developing possible support measures.
At the same time, Putin signed, this Monday (24), a decree on measures to ensure the security of critical infrastructure facilities in the Russian Federation amid growing threats during the conflict with Ukraine.
According to the document, support includes installations in the fuel and energy sectors; industry; communications; public services, transport and logistics infrastructure, including transport and logistics complexes, among others.
The decree provides that, if those responsible for the security of these facilities are unable to adequately guarantee their protection, the government, upon presidential instruction, will be authorized to impose temporary management over them.
