On Thursday (30), the former president of the United States, Donald Trump, was indicted by the Justice of New York for irregularities in the payment so that the former porn actress Stormy Daniels (Stephanie Clifford) did not talk about the relationship they had.

Trump is the first former US president to face criminal prosecution.

The case took place in 2016 and the allegation is that Daniels received US$ 130,000 so that he would not comment on sexual encounters with the former president that took place in 2006. Trump denies having had relations with her.

The payment would have been made on the eve of the presidential elections as a way of silencing her so that an extramarital scandal would not jeopardize her performance at the polls.

Although a non-disclosure agreement for financial compensation is not illegal, even though the former actress felt compelled to accept it, what weighs under Trump is the way the payments were made.

The person responsible for the payment, lawyer Michael Cohen, would have received a refund of US$ 420,000 on the US$ 130,000 used to buy Daniels’ silence, in addition to having coverage of tax obligations and an increase in bonuses.

The target of the prosecutors of the Criminal Court of Manhattan refers to the transfer of money that would have been made by the Trump Organization, which placed in its balance sheet the registration of money in legal expenses.

Furthermore, as the money was used to interfere in a situation related to the campaign, the act can be classified as an illegal donation, since it was not made within the criteria for campaign donation.

On his social networks Trump, who is a Republican presidential candidate for the 2024 elections, has attributed the indictment to a political persecution promoted by the Democratic party and directed criticism of current President Joe Biden.

He is due to appear in court next Tuesday (4).
