It is a simple and delicious recipe, widely consumed to provide energy and warmth on colder days.
Ingredients
1 egg yolk (preferably from a fresh, pasteurized egg)
1 to 2 tablespoons sugar (adjust to your preference)
1 cup milk (optional, can be warmed or cold)
A pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg (optional)
1 teaspoon vanilla essence or honey (optional)
Directions
- Separate the yolk from the white. Reserve the yolk in a bowl and discard or save the white for another recipe.
- Add the sugar to the egg yolk and beat vigorously with a wire whisk or fork until the mixture is light, creamy and homogeneous.
- If desired, add milk to the mixture. For a hot version, heat the milk first and add it gradually to avoid cooking the yolk.
- Mix well until incorporated.
- Add vanilla extract, honey or a pinch of spices for extra flavor if desired.
- Serve in a mug or glass and, if you prefer, sprinkle cinnamon or nutmeg on top.
