Prepare your Shawarma using the ingredients below and following the step-by-step preparation instructions.

Ingredients

  • 500g meat (can be chicken, beef or lamb)

  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil

  • 2 minced garlic cloves

  • 2 teaspoons cumin powder

  • 2 teaspoons of paprika

  • 1 teaspoon saffron

  • 1 lemon juice

  • salt to taste

  • pepper to taste

  • Sauce
  • 1 cup of natural yogurt

  • 2 tablespoons of lemon juice

  • 2 tbsp tahini (sesame paste)

  • 1 clove of minced garlic

  • salt to taste

  • Assembly
  • Flatbread or pita bread

  • Tomato slices

  • Cucumber slices

  • Lettuce leaves

  • Sliced ​​onion

Directions

  • In a bowl, mix the olive oil, minced garlic, cumin, paprika, saffron, lemon juice, salt and pepper. 
    Add the meat and marinate for at least 1 hour (or overnight in the fridge for a more intense flavor).
  • Preheat the oven to 200°C. 
    Skewer the marinated meat on a skewer or place it on a foil-lined baking sheet.
  • Roast the meat for about 30-40 minutes, or until it is well cooked and browned on the outside. 
    You can also grill the meat on a barbecue grill.
  • While the meat is roasting, prepare the yogurt sauce. 
    In a bowl, mix the natural yogurt, lemon juice, tahini, minced garlic and salt. 
    Stir well until you get a homogeneous mixture.
  • Remove the meat from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes. 
    Then cut it into thin slices.
  • Warm the flatbread or pita bread in the oven or in a skillet.
  • Assemble the shawarma: put a few slices of meat on the bread, add tomato, cucumber, lettuce and sliced ​​onion. 
    Drizzle with the yogurt sauce.
  • Roll up the bread, securing it with aluminum foil or parchment paper, if desired.
  • Your homemade shawarma is ready to enjoy!
