Ingredients

  • 2 cans of sardines in oil (or water), drained and cleaned

  • 1 small onion, chopped

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 2 medium tomatoes, chopped

  • 1/2 green bell pepper, chopped

  • 1/2 cup green olives, chopped

  • 3 eggs

  • 1/2 cup of milk

  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil

  • 2 cups of wheat flour

  • 1 tablespoon powdered yeast

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  • In a frying pan, heat a little vegetable oil and sauté the onion, garlic and bell pepper until soft.
  • Add the chopped tomatoes and cook for a few more minutes, until the tomatoes start to break down.
  • Add the drained and cleaned sardines, stirring gently so as not to completely break them up. 
    Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • In another bowl, beat eggs with milk and vegetable oil. 
    Add the wheat flour and baking powder, mixing well until you get a homogeneous mass.
  • In a greased pie form, pour half the dough and spread it well in the background.
  • Place the sardine filling over the dough in the mold and distribute the chopped olives over the filling.
  • Cover the filling with the rest of the dough, spreading well to cover the entire pie.
  • Place in the preheated oven and bake for about 30 to 40 minutes, or until the pie is golden brown and firm to the touch.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before unmolding and serving.
