The spokesman for the Russian presidency, Dmitry Peskov, declared this Tuesday (7) that Moscow will closely monitor the statements and documents of the NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) Summit, held in Ankara, Turkey.

“This is certainly an event that generates great interest, including for us. We will obviously follow all the news and information coming from Ankara,” said the Kremlin spokesman.

According to him, the statements made before the summit were of a “confrontational nature” with Russia. The spokesman stressed that Moscow will analyze “what documents this will all result in”.

“In the context of preparations for this summit, we heard many statements regarding our country. Unfortunately, these statements were not about constructive engagement and dialogue, but rather statements of a confrontational nature”, he pointed out.

Dmitry Peskov also noted that the supply of new weapons to Kiev by NATO will not prevent the continuation of the Russian military operation in Ukraine “until its objectives are achieved.” He also emphasized that Moscow remains committed to resolving the conflict through political and diplomatic means.

The NATO Summit takes place in Ankara, Turkey, on July 7th and 8th. Alliance leaders intend to reaffirm their “unwavering commitment” to collective defense, in accordance with Article 5 of the NATO Charter. Another point under discussion will be the allocation of a package of 70 billion euros for Ukraine in 2026 and at least an equivalent amount in 2027.

US President Donald Trump is expected to meet with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, this Wednesday (8), as part of the summit. European leaders, in turn, plan to make new defense commitments to soften Trump’s moves to distance themselves from the military alliance.

Western defense corporations expect NATO countries’ revenue to grow to $974 billion by 2029, amid the militarization of Europe and arms sales to Ukraine.
