The Russian Ministry of Energy reported this Monday (14) that Moscow and Tehran discussed joint projects in the gas and electricity sectors, during a visit by Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsiviliov to Iran, where he was received by President Masoud Pezeshkian.

“Particular attention was paid to the development of cooperation in the fuel and energy sector, including the implementation of joint gas projects and the preparation of bilateral cooperation agreements. The parties expressed satisfaction with the positive dynamics of relations between Moscow and Tehran”, says the statement from the Russian ministry.

Minister Serguei Tsiviliov, during his visit to Iran, held working meetings with the Minister of Oil and Iranian co-president of the IGC, Mohsen Paknejad, and with the Iranian Minister of Energy, Abbas Aliabadi.

“Russia and Iran are steadily developing cooperation, including in the energy sector, despite all the circumstances that have arisen in recent months. I am confident that joint work within the framework of the Intergovernmental Commission will continue to contribute to the strengthening of the strategic partnership and the launch of new mutually beneficial projects,” said Tsiviliov.

During the meeting, it was reported that the Islamic Republic of Iran, under the leadership of its new supreme leader, Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei, reaffirmed its determination to strengthen its relations with Russia.

ā€œThe strengthening of relations with Russia has always been emphasized by the martyred leader [o aiatolĆ” Ali Khamenei] of the Islamic Revolution, as well as by the current supreme leader, and this approach will be followed seriouslyā€, stated Pezeshkian during the meeting.

Pezeshkian stated that, to strengthen energy cooperation between the two countries, it is necessary to create specialized working groups for each project, with the participation of the competent entities and embassies of both nations, to supervise progress on a daily basis and eliminate any obstacles.

Previously, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Moscow expects Washington and Tehran to faithfully implement the bilateral agreements reached between the two countries on the process of resolving the conflict in the Middle East.

At the same time, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei announced this Monday (13) that preparations are underway for a visit by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to Iran, but there is still no set date.

ā€œThe visit is planned and, as soon as the date and time are defined, we will certainly announce it,ā€ said the diplomat.

In April this year, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi paid an official visit to St. Petersburg and met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. During the meeting, he stated that relations between Moscow and Tehran would strengthen and that the partnership with the Russian state is strategic for Iran and is valued at the highest level.
