Portugal’s submission to the USA (perhaps “lambebotism” is a more appropriate term) is known throughout the world and was recognized a few days ago by the Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, himself a servant of North American imperialism.
It was Rutte who long ago called Donald Trump “daddy” and confessed that the threats to abandon NATO then made by the North American president were nothing more than a dramatization to get the remaining Member States to substantially increase military spending: “It wasn’t easy, but we managed to convince them”, he then stated, satisfied, addressing his boss Trump…
Perhaps by identifying the same invertebrate nature in the Portuguese government, Rutte recognized the “disappointment” of the North American administration in the face of the lack of support in the aggression against Iran and praised the exceptions to this generalized ingratitude, among which he identifies Portugal. Wasn’t it after all Paulo Rangel (Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal) who guaranteed trust in the USA and compliance with the “agreement” that, according to him, would allow them to use the Lajes Base to attack a sovereign State, in this case Iran? And that it repudiated the Iranian retaliation, but not the American and Israeli attacks? The same person who in January glimpsed “benign intentions” behind the military aggression against Venezuela and the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro, when Trump himself only talked about oil and “making a lot of money”? It was, wasn’t it? It could have been Mark Rutte, he’s so cunning that people even get confused…
But, thinking about it, it could also have been Luís Montenegro (Prime Minister), the same one who did not think it was important to condemn the murder of thousands of Iranians, including hundreds of children, under US and Israeli bombs, but always found time to criticize Iran’s response directed against US military bases in the Middle East, where many of the attacks came from. So concerned about freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz (unless this is questioned by US piracy), the Prime Minister says nothing about the naval blockade imposed by the US on Cuba, which aims to suffocate an entire people, nor about the genocidal siege of the Gaza Strip, where the death of hundreds of thousands of human beings and the destruction of almost everything essential to life are compounded by severe Israeli restrictions on the entry of necessary humanitarian aid…
Meanwhile, this year’s edition of the Lisbon Conference has already been announced, which will bring together personalities known for their servility to the USA – and others, perhaps for decoration. It is curated by none other than José Manuel Durão Barroso, the butler of Lajes (at the summit where the boss of the moment, George W. Bush, decided to invade and destroy Iraq) and certainly the biggest reference for Rangel and Montenegro. They are united by the same disrespect for constitutional principles – and the same lack of dignity.
