The Vatican reported, on Monday (17) that Pope Francis has a polymicrobial infection of respiratory tract and that his clinical picture is considered “complex”. The pontiff has been hospitalized at the Gemeli Hospital in Rome since Friday (14), when he had symptoms of bronchitis.

The note reports that “the results of the exams performed in recent days and on Monday demonstrated a polymicrobial infection of the respiratory tract, which led to a new modification of therapy. All exams performed so far are indicative of a complex clinical condition that will require adequate hospitalization ”.

Also according to the Vatican, on his third night of hospitalization, Pope Francis, 88, “rested well, had a quiet night and this morning had breakfast as in previous days.”

Due to its health condition and the lack of discharge forecast, the pontiff’s appointment agenda has been canceled. New newsletter about your health should be released at the end of the day.

One of the Pope’s official profiles on social networks thanked the mobilization for his improvement: “I thank love, prayer and the proximity to which you are accompanying me these days.”

In addition to the advanced age, Francisco’s health inspires care because he has a history of breathing problems, resulting from the lack of the upper lung, removed when he was 21, after suffering severe pneumonia. He took over the papacy in 2013.
