Presidents held a videoconference this Thursday (13th August); also addressed the bilateral relationship and the regional context
The president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) held a video conference with the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum (Morena, left). During the call, they discussed the agreement between Petrobras and Pemex (Petróleos Mexicanos), a Mexican state company. The PT member reiterated Brazil’s interest in complying with the negotiation schedule established in 2025.
The agreement establishes strategic and technical cooperation in oil and gas exploration and production projects, in addition to the exchange of knowledge between the companies. The partnership also involves studies in areas such as industrial processes and regulatory frameworks for the hydrocarbon sector.
Furthermore, the presidents talked about the bilateral relationship between the 2 countries and discussed the regional and international scenario. The information was released by Secom (Secretariat of Social Communication) in a note. Here is the full text (PDF – 149 kB).
Lula celebrated the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Peru. The relationships were ruptured by Peru in November 2025, after the Mexican government granted asylum to former Peruvian Prime Minister Betssy Chávez.
Initiative against femicide
The president also spoke with Sheinbaum about First Lady Janja da Silva’s proposal to launch an international initiative against femicide.
On August 6, President Lula it received the Chancellor of Mexico, Roberto Velasco, at the Palácio do Planalto. Among the issues discussed was the agreement between Petrobras and Pemex.
