Charles III had been officially away from public duties since February, the month in which the diagnosis was announced

Buckingham Palace announced this Friday (April 26, 2024) that King Charles III should return to public engagements next week. Diagnosed with cancer in February, the monarch will pay a visit to doctors and patients at a cancer treatment center.

Next Tuesday (April 30), he will be accompanied by Queen Consort Camilla in his first public engagement after the diagnosis was announced. In June, he will receive the Emperor of Japan, who will go to the United Kingdom on a state visit.

The agency Associated Press reported that Charles’ return is a relief for the royal family. The absence of the King and Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton, also diagnosed with cancer, has been a challenge for the monarchy.

The statement also thanked the health wishes received around the world. ā€œAs the 1st anniversary of the Coronation approaches, Their Majesties remain deeply grateful for the many kindnesses and good wishes they received from around the world during the joys and challenges of the past yearā€he declares.
