Iran is ready to provide guarantees that it is not seeking to arm its nuclear program in exchange for relief from US sanctions, said the main diplomat of the country, as cited by Tehran Times. Seyed Abbas Araghchi headed the Iranian delegation during indirect conversations with US envoy Steve Witkoff in the capital of Oman, Muscat, on Saturday (12).

The meeting was the first diplomatic commitment between Washington and Tehran in years, with discussions focused on the Iran’s nuclear program and the possible flexibility of US sanctions.

According to the news agency, Araye said Iran wants a “win-win agreement” and “would not agree, under any circumstances, to dismantle your nuclear program”.

He said, however, that the country is “willing to take steps to provide guarantees against the militarization of their nuclear activities”This would include allowing access from the International Atomic Energy Agency to places with nuclear equipment in the country.

In return, Tehran wants US sanctions in various sectors to be removed without the possibility of being brought back “Under other pretexts”, According to the Tehran Times.

According to the report, Witkoff acknowledged that the US needs concessions. During the negotiations, the envoy allegedly did not mention the potential dismantling of the Iran’s nuclear program, nor did it refer to the original agreement, the Comprehensive Action Plan (JCPOA), from which US President Donald Trump withdrew in 2018 during his first term, despite the fact that JCPOA had been designed by its predecessor, Barack Obama.

“The conversation with the Iranians will be a lot about two critical points,” said Witkoff. The first is the verification of uranium enrichment, “And finally, the verification of weapons, which includes missiles, the type of missiles they stocked there, and includes the trigger for a bomb”.

The body of Islamic Revolutionary Guard (IRGC), however, insists that Iran’s military capabilities are out of any foreign intrusion.

National security and defense and military power are among the red lines of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which cannot be discussed or negotiated under any circumstances”Said IRGC spokesman, Ali Mohammad Nani, on Tuesday (15), as cited by various media.
