Petition on aggression against Iran: academics, intellectuals, artists and social and political leaders repudiate crimes against humanity
Violating all norms of international law and the UN Charter, the United States and Israel began, on February 28, a war against Iran, without any provocation and in the midst of diplomatic negotiations.
In flagrant disregard for the basic notions of ethics and morality and the provisions of the Geneva Convention and its additional protocols – which strictly prohibit attacks against civilians and against civilian infrastructure – the aggressor forces are bombing schools, universities, hospitals and urban facilities essential to the daily lives of the Iranian people.
US President Donald Trump explicitly threatens to take the ancient Persian country – one of the most fertile cradles of culture in all of human history – “back to the Stone Age” and threatens, without mincing words, that “an entire civilization will die”.
Such facts constitute unequivocal war crimes and crimes against humanity.
The signatories, in the name of the essential values of humanism, demand an end to military aggression against Iran and respect for the dignity of the Iranian people and Iran’s national sovereignty.
