Na’ama Levy, formerly the Israeli army, spoke in protest organized by the Family Forum in Tel Aviv. The demonstration occurred after Netanyahu declared that defeating Israel’s enemies is more important than releasing hostages still kept in Gaza. Photo: Reproduction

Israel again denying, on Monday (26), a proposal for ceasefire accepted by Hamas and mediated by the United States. The deal provided for a 70 -day break in the attacks, the release of ten living Israeli hostages and ten body of dead hostages, as well as hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.

In return, Hamas required a formal guarantee that the second phase of the agreement-a permanent ceasefire-would be respected. This requirement occurs because the far right government of Benjamin Netanyahu had already broken the previous agreement, signed in January, by resuming the massacre against Gaza in March.

The Israeli retreat generated new internal criticism and expanded international pressure. Amid the destruction of entire cities such as Rafah and Khan Yunis, more than 50,000 Palestinians have been killed since October.

The Israeli negative, despite the adherence of Hamas, imposes new obstacles on the release of hostages and highlights the option of the Netanyahu government by a permanent war strategy, rejected even by Israeli society.

Netanyahu frustrates hostage families with calculated setbacks

In a video statement published on Monday night (26), the prime minister stated that he expected to “announce something about the hostages, if not today [segunda, 26]so tomorrow [terça, 27]”.

The phrase increased the expectations of families, who began to pressure the government for confirmations. Hours later, an anonymous spokesman stated that Netanyahu did not speak literally and that the position of Hamas was still inflexible. That is, the agreement for a hostage exchange would not be realized.

The answer was immediate. The hostage families forum accused the government of emotional abuse.

“We feel abused. Comments like this make our hearts shattered will shoot. We expect the least sensitivity,” the forum published in a statement.

Einav Zangauker, mother of the Matan Zangauker hostage, said the premiere government acts as a kind of psychological torturer. “Netanyahu is torturing us day and night, while my son is alone in a tunnel. This is psychological terrorism against families,” he said.

Former Israeli soldier Na’ama Levy, released in January, denounced that her biggest fear during captivity was the bombing of Israel.

“First comes the whistle, then the explosions. Each time, I thought it would be the end. That was my reality. It’s their reality now. They are there, shaking with fear, with nowhere to run.” LEVY reported.

Another released hostage, in a meeting with Netanyahu, reported Temer to be killed by Israel and then hold Hamas responsible.

Shin Bet, hostages and the strategy of permanent war

On Friday (24), Netanyahu appointed General David Zini as the new head of Shin Bet, Israel’s internal security service. The choice was criticized by representatives of families, as Zini openly defends rejection of hostage exchanges.

“I am against hostage agreements. This is a war forever,” he said, according to the station Channel 12.

SHIN BET is responsible for repression operations in occupied Palestinian territories, counterattack and internal political security. It acts directly on indirect negotiations with Hamas.

The Family Forum reacted with indignation. “Naming a shin Bet boss who prioritizes Netanyahu’s war on the life of hostages is a sin about a crime. A blow against solidarity and the sacred duty of leaving no one behind,” he published in a statement.

Germany breaks silence, Europe expands pressure against Israel

Still on Monday (26), the new German Chancellor Friedrich Merz broke with the full alignment policy between Berlin and Tel Aviv and harshly criticized the offensive in Gaza.

“Frankly, I no longer understand what is the purpose of the Israeli army. Causing so much suffering to the civilian population can no longer be justified as a struggle against terrorism,” he said.

Merz said he wants to maintain relationships with Israel, but “no government can do things that even their best friends are more willing to accept.”

Germany had avoided adding to the harshest criticism of countries such as France, the United Kingdom and Canada, but now has also been questioning weapons exports.

The German commissioner against anti -Semitism, Felix Klein, stated that ‘making Palestinians starving has nothing to do with protecting Israel’s right of existence.’

In the European Union, Sports Commissioner Glenn Micallef suggested sanctions against Israel also in the cultural and sports field: “There should be no room in competitions for countries that do not share our values.”

“There is blood shed in Gaza, civilians paying the price. Sport must promote the values we believe in – with any country,” he concluded.
