The intensification of the genocide in Gaza turns three years old this Wednesday (7), with the worsening of the humanitarian tragedy that has already killed more than 70 thousand people and with no sign of an end to Israel’s expansionist drive. United States President Donald Trump’s peace plan for the region has completed one year and there has been no sign of retreat, and bombings against the Palestinian people continue daily.

In an interview with BdF Connectionyes Radio Brasil de FatoUalid Rabah, licensed president of the Palestinian Federation (FEPAL), criticizes the ceasefire announced a year ago and believes that it is necessary to know what is happening in the territory, otherwise we risk ending up believing the narratives of the USA and Israel. “Israel and the USA had one objective: to completely destroy Gaza and not allow its reconstruction. That’s why Gaza remains blocked. We still have 1.9 million Palestinians in Gaza who have remained displaced since the beginning of the conflict. So, this alleged ceasefire agreement was not a ceasefire, neither to rebuild the territory nor to bring in humanitarian aid”, he states.

Rabah cites the latest UN report, which points to at least 2 million Palestinians in Gaza still suffering from “chronic hunger”, 200,000 children without schools and 8,000 missing under rubble. “This constitutes the ongoing genocide, since the definition of genocide identifies that it is not just the death of a group, but imposing conditions that lead to death”, he points out.

Despite the geographical distance, this Tuesday there were also pro-Palestinian protests in front of the São Paulo City Council, where, the day before, Major Rafael Rozenszajn, spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) for Portuguese-speaking countries, was honored.

Ualid Rabah states that this type of situation is not surprising, because “there must be supporters all over the world for the genocide to continue”. He explains that Israel is in a broad international campaign to improve its image in the face of so much evidence of the extermination of Palestinians. Israel’s privileged allies, that is, all types of right-wing extremism that moves towards fascism, begin to actively participate in this process”, he states.

The president of Fepal analyzes the episode in which the plenary of the UN General Assembly emptied when the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, took to the pulpit, with little practical impact. Rabah highlights that, within the context of the West, there is still American hegemony. Despite some countries being outraged and showing solidarity with the situation in Gaza, the US still has veto power on the institution’s Security Council.

“And there is still the part of the cultural industry that gives a positive image of Israel and a negative image of the Middle East, the Arab world. All of this prevents punishment. The USA started to impose sanctions on judges of the International Criminal Court and other international actors who oppose genocide”, he highlights.
