Ingredients

  • 1 cup of ketchup

  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

  • 2 tablespoons of honey

  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika

  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, adjust to your taste)

  • Salt to taste

Directions

  • In a pan, mix the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar and honey.
Bring the mixture to medium heat.
  • Add Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using).
  • Stir well to combine all ingredients.
  • Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer, then reduce heat to medium-low.
  • Cook the sauce for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
  • Continue cooking until the sauce thickens and reaches a consistency suitable for barbecue sauce.
  • Taste the sauce and add salt as needed, adjusting the seasoning to your personal taste.
  • Remove the pan from the heat and let the sauce cool slightly before using it.
The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools.
  • Use barbecue sauce on grilled, roasted meats or even as a dipping sauce.
It is great for marinating and brushing on meats during cooking.
