1 cup of ketchup
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons of honey
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, adjust to your taste)
Salt to taste
Directions
- In a pan, mix the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar and honey.
Bring the mixture to medium heat. - Add Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using).
- Stir well to combine all ingredients.
- Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer, then reduce heat to medium-low.
- Cook the sauce for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
- Continue cooking until the sauce thickens and reaches a consistency suitable for barbecue sauce.
- Taste the sauce and add salt as needed, adjusting the seasoning to your personal taste.
- Remove the pan from the heat and let the sauce cool slightly before using it.
The sauce will continue to thicken as it cools. - Use barbecue sauce on grilled, roasted meats or even as a dipping sauce.
It is great for marinating and brushing on meats during cooking.
