European Union has defined that competitor products and services can work on big tech devices

Apple said it will postpone the launch of 3 new AI (artificial intelligence) features in Europe because of new EU rules on the use of technology. The features are: 1) telephone spreading, 2) the screen sharing improvements in SharePlay and 3) o Apple Intelligence.

“We are committed to collaborating with the European Commission in an attempt to find a solution that allows us to provide these capabilities to our EU customers without compromising their security,” the company told Reuters.

AI initiatives were presented by Apple this month as software improvements that will be available on iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPad and Mac devices with an M1 chip.

The Digital Markets Law, which came into force in March 2024, established stricter rules in order to preserve fair competition between technology companies.

With this, Apple must ensure that competitor products and services can work on its devices. The company contests the decision.

“Specifically, we are concerned that DMA interoperability requirements [Lei de Mercados Digitais] may force us to compromise the integrity of our products in ways that put the privacy and security of user data at risk.”Apple told Reuters.
