In the third year of the Israeli genocide in the Gaza Strip, which began on October 7, 2023, a report from the National Situation Room of Israel’s Ministry of Diaspora and Combating Anti-Semitism predicts a substantial increase in pro-Palestinian solidarity demonstrations and events around the world.

The report identifies a total of 262 events in 37 countries between October 1st and 14th, with the largest concentration of mobilizations expected for the weekend following October 7th. The goal of these events is to maximize participation and media coverage, and to demand that Israel stop the genocide.

The largest concentration of events comes from the United States, with 45; followed closely by Spain, with 40; then by Australia, with 21 events; the United Kingdom, with 19; and Italy, with 16.

Likewise, Germany and Canada complete the list of countries with the highest number of demonstrations, with 14 events each, France with 10 and the Netherlands with eight.

In relation to urban areas, the ministerial report highlighted several metropolitan regions; in North America, these include New York, Los Angeles, Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa. In Europe, the focus is on London, Berlin, Amsterdam, Athens, Milan, Rome, Barcelona and Paris.

In Latin America, the document details activities in Bogotá and Santiago de Chile, while in Asia and Oceania the main focuses are located in Melbourne, Sydney, Istanbul and Bangkok.

Some demonstrations are expected to take place in front of Israeli embassies in different parts of the world.

Since Israel launched its full-scale offensive on October 7, 2023, the Palestinian enclave has been the target of daily killings, systematic destruction of infrastructure, livelihoods and social fabric, widespread forced displacement and suffocation through the instrumentalization of humanitarian aid.

These Israeli actions, described as genocide by legal experts and international organizations, continue despite international arrest warrants for crimes against humanity and war crimes being issued against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Galant in November 2024. These warrants were issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Palestinian health authorities updated the accumulated assessment of the humanitarian crisis. In a report dated October 1, 74,040 Palestinians were killed and 175,168 injured, most of them women, children and the elderly.

According to the latest reports from the local Ministry of Health, whose data is considered reliable by United Nations agencies and several international entities, women and children represent approximately half of the total number of deaths.

In the context of the recent assessment, local medical sources and ministerial reports indicate that since the ceasefire came into force on October 11 last year, there have been 1,462 deaths, 5,151 injuries and the recovery of 836 bodies.

In the report for the last few days, authorities recorded the arrival of new victims at the enclave’s hospital facilities, including those who died as a result of recent attacks and the severity of previous injuries, also warning that countless people remain trapped under the rubble, without rescue and emergency teams being able to reach them.

The most recent report from the International Hunger Observatory (IPC) indicated that the entire Palestinian territory continues to face a food crisis; in it, 1.4 million people (more than two-thirds of the total population of the Gaza Strip) are exposed to high levels of food insecurity.

The NGO Doctors Without Borders (MSF) also indicated that the necessary conditions for the population of Gaza “are systematically destroyed through continuous violence, the deliberate blockade of supplies and the destruction of health services”.

Furthermore, due to overcrowding and unsanitary conditions caused by the blockade, diseases are spreading in the Gaza Strip: MSF inspected more than 1,500 cases of chickenpox in June and July and has treated 11,000 patients with skin diseases such as scabies this year.

Despite international condemnation, Netanyahu reiterated that the occupation forces will maintain their presence in the territory until the disarmament of the Hamas movement is completed.

In turn, UN Secretary-General António Guterres demanded a permanent ceasefire to end the crisis in the enclave, but this has not yet materialized.
