
The United States carried out attacks against Iran for the seventh consecutive night this Friday (17), according to the country’s Armed Forces and with confirmation from Iranian authorities. In a publication on the X network, the United States Central Command stated that the attacks began at 7 pm (4 pm in Brasília) with the aim of “continuing to degrade Iranian military capabilities”.
According to the Iranian state agency Irnafive explosions were heard this Saturday morning (18, local date) in Yazd, in central Iran. The government of Bushehr, a port city, reported, according to the news agency Tasnimthat the US attacked an Iranian oil tanker docked on Karg Island. Another explosion was heard on the outskirts of Las, in the southwestern province of Fars.
There was damage to energy infrastructure in the south of the country, and the government asked the population to reduce electricity consumption. During the week, US President Donald Trump threatened to attack bridges and power plants.
Earlier, also this Friday, the Iranian supreme leader’s military advisor, Mohsen Rezai, said, in a statement reproduced on state television, that the country will enter “a phase of total offensive” if the US attacks continue for more than “two or three days”.
Oil tankers explode in Hormuz
Iranian forces reported that two oil tankers, one flying a Thai flag, exploded while trying to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (RGC) Navy also claims that an MQ-9 drone was intercepted and destroyed using an aerial system integrated into Iran’s air defense.
The IRGC stated that the strait is “extremely unsafe and completely closed” due to US aggression.
In Kuwait, a power plant and a water desalination plant were hit by an Iranian attack, according to the emirate. Authorities in the country, where temperatures reach 48°C, asked the population to “ration electricity consumption during this exceptional phase”. The armed forces of Jordan, Bahrain and Qatar, all close allies of the United States, also announced that they faced airstrikes at dawn this Friday.
US hostilities resumed on July 7 after attacks on vessels in the Gulf blamed on Iran, ending the fragile ceasefire that began in April. The conflict in the Middle East began on February 28 with Israeli and American bombings against Iranian territory.
