The president of China, Xi Jinping, sent a message of condolences to the interim president of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, after the earthquakes that hit the country on June 24, 2026 and left at least 589 dead, around 3,000 injured and hundreds missing, according to official reports and information from international agencies.

The message was disseminated through official Chinese channels and occurred amid the international mobilization of humanitarian aid given the scale of the catastrophe.

“On behalf of the Chinese government and the Chinese people, I deeply regret the people who lost their lives in the earthquakes and express sincere condolences to the bereaved families and those injured,” said Xi Jinping.

The Chinese leader also highlighted the bilateral relationship between the two countries and the mutual support nature of the partnership. “China and Venezuela are good friends and good partners who support each other,” he said.

The earthquakes caused the collapse of buildings, damage to hospitals and urban infrastructure, in addition to displacing thousands of people. Rescue teams continue to work amid searches for survivors and emergency operations.

At the core of the message, Xi Jinping reaffirmed Beijing’s willingness to support the South American country in responding to the disaster. “China is willing to provide Venezuela with assistance in relief and reconstruction work,” said the Chinese president.

Xi also expressed confidence in the country’s recovery after the tragedy. “We believe that, under the leadership of the Venezuelan government, the Venezuelan people will overcome the disaster and rebuild their homes,” he declared.

Emergency humanitarian assistance to Venezuela

In a press conference held this Friday (27), at the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in response to a question from Brazil in factspokesman Guo Jiakun stated that the Chinese government expressed condolences to Venezuela after the earthquakes that caused great human and material losses in the South American country, a gesture that was appreciated by Caracas.

Guo said that given the situation, the Chinese government and the China Red Cross Society will provide emergency humanitarian assistance to support relief work.

“Following the earthquakes that caused great human and economic losses in Venezuela, the Chinese government expressed condolences to the Venezuelan government and people, and the Venezuelan government thanked China for this.
