The military attack carried out by the United States against Venezuela this Saturday (3) provoked an immediate and vigorous reaction from global progressive forces. In Brazil, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva led the international condemnation by classifying the operation as a “very serious affront” to national sovereignty and a dangerous precedent for the planet. In a blunt statement, Lula stated that such acts ignore International Law in favor of “law of the strongest”which pushes the world towards chaos and instability, threatening the preservation of Latin America as a zone of peace.

O PCdoB reacted promptly, denouncing the “criminal” character of the imperialist offensive. The party called on activists and neighboring nations for a regional mobilization in defense of Venezuelan independence, highlighting that the integrity of a nation cannot be violated by Washington’s economic or geopolitical interests. This solidarity network was reinforced by workers’ and social movement organizations that expressed their rejection of the kidnapping of the elected president and reaffirmed that the sovereignty of the Latin American peoples is not for sale.

Diplomatic offensive at the UN and global repercussions

Resistance to North American arbitrariness gained institutional strength with the decision of Russia to convene an emergency UN Security Council meeting. Russian diplomats classified the attack as “without justification”, joining the chorus of nations such as China and Iran, which see the action as a flagrant violation of the United Nations Charter.

While Washington’s allies adopt moderate tones and the far right celebrates violence, the progressive bloc, articulated by leaders such as Lula and allied base parties, reinforces that the solution to any crisis must be guided by dialogue and respect for self-determination, rejecting any attempt at colonialist tutelage over the continent.
