The Communist Party of Brazil issued an official statement this Saturday (3) strongly condemning the United States military attack against Venezuela, which took place in the early hours of the morning, and the announced kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro. The party classifies the action as “international terrorism” and warns of the impacts throughout Latin America, calling for a broad regional mobilization in defense of Venezuelan sovereignty.
In a statement signed by the National Executive Commission, the PCdoB highlights that “such acts constitute international terrorism and affect all of Latin America”. The note emphasizes the urgency in defending Venezuela, urging sovereign governments in the region, social movements and political parties to come together to promote “large mobilizations of denunciation”. The objective is to prevent the escalation of aggression and demand full respect for the country’s independence and the legitimate president Nicolás Maduro.
“The Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB) condemns in the strongest terms the US criminal attack and the announced kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro, which occurred in the early hours of this Saturday (3)”, states the text. The party’s position reflects a tradition of internationalist solidarity, aligned with the fight against imperialist interventions in Latin America, as already demonstrated in historical episodes involving Cuba, Nicaragua and other countries in the region.
US military action, which included bombings in Caracas and adjacent regions, was justified by President Donald Trump as an operation to capture Maduro on drug trafficking charges. However, for the PCdoB, this is a flagrant violation of international law, with the aim of seizing strategic Venezuelan resources, such as oil and minerals.
The National Executive Commission concludes the statement by reaffirming the commitment to anti-imperialist unity: “The sovereign governments of the region, social movements and political parties must unite with a view to promoting large mobilizations of denunciation, preventing the escalation of aggression and demanding full respect for the independence of Venezuela and the legitimate president Nicolás Maduro.”
