Platform created by the company Enigma recorded 15,000 reports of sightings in the last 18 months; 11,312 were in the country

The Enigma — UFO & UAP Sightings app, developed by US data science company Enigma Labs, has recorded 15,000 reports of UFO (unidentified flying object) sightings in the last 18 months, with the US leading in number of occurrences, with 11,312.

Users can upload UFO images accompanied by descriptions and other details through the app. Enigma Labs uses artificial intelligence and human review to evaluate these reports, and estimates that about ⅔ of them represent UAPs (unidentified anomalous phenomena), a new way of referring to UFOs.

According to Enigma, more than half of sightings are witnessed by multiple people, which, according to the company, increases the credibility of the records.

In an analysis conducted by the British newspaper The Economist (link for subscribers), using the platform’s sightings data, it was observed that UAPs take on various shapes, with circles and spheres being the most frequent. Additionally, some of these objects exhibit unconventional flight patterns, such as abrupt movements at high speeds.

According to the Economist survey, circles and spheres are the most common shapes in UFO sightings. More than half of the witnesses who identified their professions on the app are former military or civilian pilots

Most sightings have been recorded in English-speaking countries, especially North America. But the Economist suggests that the fact that the application is only available in English may affect registrations.

The United States leads the ranking of sightings in the last 18 months. There were 11,312 out of 15,000 reports

In the United States, the State of New Mexico has recorded the highest number of UFO sightings in relation to its population, with California leading in absolute terms of sightings.

OVNIS X UAPS

In September 2023, a report released by NASA indicated that there is no evidence that UAPs are extraterrestrials. The report began to be produced in May 2022 by an independent group of 16 experts invited by the agency. Here is the full document (PDF – 9 MB, in English).

NASA, the US space agency, defines UAP as “observations of events in the sky that cannot be identified” such as aircraft or scientifically known natural phenomena.

Currently, according to the US agency, there are a limited number of high-quality observations of UFOs, which makes it impossible to draw scientific conclusions about their nature.
