The Iranian government stated that it has not decided whether it will participate in a new round of negotiations with the United States, mediated by Pakistan, scheduled for this Tuesday (21). The information was released this Monday by the Iranian agency Tasnim.

“So far, we have not made any decision on the next round of negotiations,” said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei.

He also criticized the US, saying that since the ceasefire began earlier this month, Iran has faced “bad faith and constant complaints” from Washington. According to him, the US initially claimed that Lebanon was not party to the ceasefire, despite Pakistan’s explicit claim to the contrary.

Baqaei further added that even after an understanding was reached, there were US maritime actions in the Strait of Hormuz, including a US attack on an Iranian commercial vessel on Sunday night, which he described as a “ceasefire violation” and “an act of aggression.”

He emphasized that US behavior does not align with its rhetoric, saying this contradiction only deepens Iran’s distrust of the entire process. “Iran will make necessary decisions on the future path with careful consideration of its national interests,” he added.

The attack in question was carried out against the Iranian-flagged freighter Touska and confirmed by the US. According to the US military, “US forces issued several warnings and informed the Iranian-flagged ship that it was violating the US blockade”, which would have justified the shooting at the vessel.

After the attack, Baghaei said the US had violated the ceasefire and that “Iran does not trust Washington.” He added that “there are indications from the United States that there is no seriousness in following the path of diplomacy.”

The spokesman for the Jatam al Anbiya central headquarters, Lieutenant Colonel Ebrahim Zolfaghari, stated that, in addition to breaking the ceasefire, the United States committed “an act of marine piracy”. According to the same note, in response, “Iranian forces also attacked US military ships with drones”.

This weekend, the president of the United States, Donald Trump, once again threatened Iran, giving the country what would be the “last chance” to resume negotiations, scheduled for next Tuesday (21), in Pakistan. According to Trump, if the Iranian government refuses the new peace agreement, “the entire country will be destroyed.”
