
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, said this Friday (10) that he is willing to negotiate with Iran and, hours later, he again confirmed the end of the ceasefire.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran has asked us to continue negotiations. We agree to that, but the United States has made it absolutely clear to them that the ceasefire is OVER!” Trump said on the social network for conservatives Truth Social.
This week, the US accused Iran of bombing three Qatari and Saudi Arabian tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. US forces then bombed around 90 Iranian targets. The attacks came after another offensive, which had around 80 targets.
Iran retaliated, hitting US military installations in Kuwait and Bahrain. Amid the harsh scenario, Qatar has tried to mediate possible negotiations. This Friday (10), the Iranian agency Tasnim reported that a Qatari delegation visited Tehran.
Another strategic actor in the Middle East, Israel said, through Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, that the war “is not yet over.”
In the escalation of tension, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, issued a warning: “As we have previously stated, the attack on infrastructure will be met with retaliation, and the Zionist regime, responsible for these atrocities, will not escape the response of the fighters either.”
For the authority, the Israeli attacks would be a reaction to the funeral of the Iranian supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, who died in February as a result of the joint attack by the USA and Israel against Iranian territory.
In conversation with the Brazil in factthe professor of International Relations at the Federal University of ABC (UFABC), Jana Silverman, explained that Trump has repeated his belligerent speech to convey an image of strength, but the situation is not supported by reality.
“There is nothing new. Since the beginning of the conflict, he has been doing this. I believe that this war is making it very clear that there are ways to wage an unconventional war against a country that is the greatest military power in the world”, said Silverman.
