After three years of conflict, Russia indicated a ceasefire proposal by recognizing areas already occupied in Ukraine. According to the newspaper Financial TimesRussian leader Vladimir Putin told Steve Witkoff, special envoy by US President Donald Trump, who could renounce claims about four territories: Kherson, Zaporizehzia, Donetsk and Luhansk, these last two in the Donbass region.

To reach this agreement, Putin calls for the recognition of Crimea as Russian property by the United States, as he wants a statement that Russia has control of the already occupied parts of the four regions cited – only Luhansk is under total Russian control.

These are the conditions that the United States have worked for a possible agreement that ends the advance of Putin troops in Ukraine.

European leaders are reticent about the articulation because they are out of these discussions and believing that Putin is attracting Trump to his orbit. They understand that American recognition will be used by Putin to endorse the possession of the localities.

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky says he is not open to the recognition of crime control by neighbors. He reaffirmed his position at a press conference last Tuesday (22) and said he did not receive an official proposal.

This is considered Putin’s first proposal to end the advance of troops in retreat regarding his initial requirements.

The possibility of a US -headed armistice would be accompanied by European troops to ensure the front line peace for the purpose of creating a demilitarized zone. These forces would be not belonging to NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization), which was one of the main triggers for the war with the attempt to enter Ukraine to the group. Therefore, a new attempt to enter Ukrainians to the organization would remain vetoed by Moscow.

Thus, to account for the agreement, Ukraine would commit to not trying to resume areas by force, just as Russia would interrupt the advance of troops.

London

On Wednesday (23), a new round of negotiations takes place in London with representatives from the US, Ukraine and European countries, continuing the meeting started the week before in Paris.

After the Russian truce during Easter, attacks took place again this week. Despite this new meeting, a concrete result should not happen, since most ministers of state canceled the presence.

Thus, negotiation has less weight when conducted by advisors to the ministers. Admittedly, there will be a larger British and Ukrainian quorum, these gifts with Zelensky’s Chief of Staff, Andrii Yermak, and Foreign Ministers Andrii Sybiha, and Desa, Rustem Umarov.
