This Monday (25), President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva receives the Prime Minister of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chính, at the Palácio do Planalto. It will be the first time in 15 years that a leader from the Asian country has an official agenda in Brazil.
The meeting is scheduled for 11 am and, according to Itamaraty, the representatives will discuss various topics on the bilateral agenda, including trade, investments, science, technology and innovation, technical and educational cooperation, defense, renewable energy, among others.
In September, amid the celebrations of the 78th anniversary of the founding of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, in Porto Vittoria, in Brasília, Ambassador Pham Thi Kim Hoa had already announced the Prime Minister’s visit, highlighting that in 2022 the volume of commercial business reached almost 7 billion dollars.
According to official data, in 2022, bilateral trade reached a record US$6.4 billion, an increase of 18% compared to the previous year. Brazilian exports totaled US$3.4 billion, and imports exceeded US$2.9 billion. Brazil is the main supplier of soybeans and pork and the second largest supplier of chicken meat and cotton to Vietnam.
It is planned to sign cooperation agreements on education, defense, agriculture and between diplomatic academies. Lula and Minh Chính must also address issues involving Mercosur, a South American regional economic bloc, and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, which involves ten countries in the region, in addition to issues linked to other international forums.
The two had a bilateral meeting held within the scope of the extended G7 summit, in Hiroshima, Japan, in May this year, when they discussed bilateral trade.
Pham Minh Chinh visited, this Saturday (24), Embraer, in São José dos Campos, in the interior of São Paulo, as part of his official visit to Brazil. The delegation was received by company president Francisco Gomes Neto, who presented the Brazilian company’s innovations for the aerospace sector to the Vietnamese leader.
