“Enia” Plan promoted meetings for sexual orientation and provided contraceptive methods for young Argentine women
The president of Argentina, Javier Milei, decided to suspend the National Plan for the Prevention of Intentional Pregnancy in Adolescents, called Enia. The information was given by Casa Rosada spokesperson, Manuel Adorni.
The Milei government decided not to renew the contract with 619 health professionals who carried out sexual orientation activities for young Argentine women. It also provided contraceptive methods.
According to data published by the newspaper Clarion, the program managed to reduce teenage pregnancy rates. In 2017, when Enia began, 94,079 births were recorded among young people aged 15 to 19. Last year, there were 46,236 cases.
The Argentine Ministry of Health reported that it is studying a new program to combat teenage pregnancy. The program served at least 12 Argentine provinces.
In February, Milei’s party, the “Freedom Advances” (“Liberty Advances”, in free translation), presented a proposal to repeal the law that allows abortion in certain cases in the country.
