Ingredients
500g pre-cooked lasagna pasta
500g ground meat (can be beef, chicken, or a mixture of both)
1 medium onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, chopped
500ml tomato sauce
2 tablespoons olive oil
Salt and pepper to taste
500g grated mozzarella cheese
50g grated parmesan cheese
Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C.
- In a large pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic and sauté until golden.
- Add the ground beef to the pan and cook until it is completely browned and there are no longer any pink spots.
- Season the meat with salt and pepper to taste and add the tomato sauce. Let the mixture cook over low heat for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, so the flavors blend well.
- In a baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Then place a layer of lasagna noodles over the sauce.
- Cover the pasta with a layer of grated mozzarella cheese and then a layer of meat sauce.
- Repeat the layers, alternating between pasta, mozzarella cheese and meat sauce, until all ingredients have been used. Make sure to finish with a layer of meat sauce on top.
- Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the last layer of sauce.
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and place in the preheated oven for about 30-40 minutes, or until the lasagna is bubbly and the cheese is melted.
- Remove the foil during the last 10 minutes of cooking to brown the top of the lasagna.
- Remove from the oven and let the lasagna rest for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil leaves, if desired.
