President Lula provided solidarity with former Argentine president Cristina Kirchner, who is persecuted from the judiciary. She had a conviction confirmed by the country’s Supreme Court to six years in prison and definitive ineligibility last Tuesday (10).

In contact by phone, Lula highlighted the need for Cristina to stay firm and said the former president is “serene and determined.” The information was released on social network X:

“I called today in the late afternoon to companion Cristina Kirchner and expressed all my solidarity. I spoke of the importance of staying firm in this difficult time. I noticed, with satisfaction, the serene and determined way Cristina faces this adverse situation and how determined to follow,” said Lula.

The 72 -year -old Kirchner’s defense asks the penalty to be served in house arrest. The legislation allows this condition for people over 70, provided certain measures are met.

With two terms as president between 2007 and 2015 and as vice president between 2019 and 2023, the peronist leader does not hold any post today. She would be a candidate for provincial deputy in Buenos Aires in the September election.

However, the persecution that has suffered it will prevent it from competing. Like Lula in Brazil, Rafael Correa in Ecuador and Evo Morales in Bolivia and other Left Leaders in Latin America, Cristina went through a serious process of lawfare – The use of judicial institutions to criminalize opponents.

As soon as there was an announcement of his candidacy, the country’s Supreme Court speed the confirmation of the sentence by fraudulent administration, which had been established in lower spheres.

The case refers to fraudulent hiring held in the province of Santa Cruz, Patagonia. As exposed by the defense, Cristina cannot be held responsible for acts in provincial public bids, as hiring does not pass the presidency, but also the execution of the budget is conducted by the chief of staff and Congress approved the values intended for the works in question.

In addition, it is alleged that there is no proof of direct connection with the public and private involved responsible for the contracts. Therefore, another case of political persecution that uses the judicial means and has the media support to criminalize the progressive field.

The case should go to international cuts. The lawyers intend to present this political persecution at the Inter -American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) and the International Criminal Court (ICC).
