Also according to the agency, the Iranian delegation sent to New York for the UN General Assembly will return to the country on Tuesday (29).
The denial comes one day after the President of the United States, Donald Trump, told the American press that he expected talks to resume in the coming days. “I look forward to more talks with Iran [nesta semana]. They want to make a deal, but it’s not the deal I want to make,” Trump told the website. Axios. According to the publication, sources indicated that a new round of indirect negotiations could begin this week, mediated by Qatar.
On Saturday (26), Trump announced that he rejected the Iranian plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz in seven days, sent to Washington by Qatari mediators. “They want to close a deal to open the Strait of Hormuz immediately because they are losing badly,” mentioned the Republican, without providing evidence.
On Sunday (27), Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, stated that the country is still seeking a diplomatic solution and that he has not received a formal response from Washington. “Our conditions are clear, and any measure to reopen the Strait of Hormuz depends on compliance with these conditions. Only a negotiated solution can remove the parties from this impasse. We are waiting for the mediators to convey their definitive positions to us and we will make a decision based on them,” he wrote in X.
The United States maintains a naval blockade of Iranian ports, and Iranian attacks on vessels have reduced shipping in Hormuz. Trump, in turn, maintains that the US controls the passage, which is rejected by Tehran. In this context, the commander-in-chief of the Iranian Army, Amir Hatam, highlighted that the war had entered a “critical and decisive” phase, pointing out that Iran does not accept being prevented from selling its products while other countries continue to use parallel routes in the region.
China, the main buyer of Iranian oil, once again defended a negotiated exit. According to information from the state agency XinhuaChinese President Xi Jinping told Trump at last week’s meeting that he hoped to see the US and Iran back in dialogue “as soon as possible”.
