Check the list of ingredients below and follow the step-by-step instructions on how to prepare your Heart of Palm Empadinha to be perfect!


  • 2 cups of wheat flour

  • 200g chilled butter

  • 1 egg

  • 1 teaspoon of salt

  • 1 can of chopped hearts of palm

  • 1 chopped onion

  • 1 clove of minced garlic

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

  • 1 tablespoon wheat flour

  • 1 cup of milk

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • 1 egg yolk for brushing


  • In a large bowl, mix the wheat flour, the cold butter cut into cubes and the salt until it forms a farofa. 
    Add the egg and knead until a homogeneous mass is formed. 
    Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and place in the fridge for 30 minutes.
  • In the meantime, prepare the stuffing. 
    Saute onion and garlic in olive oil until golden. 
    Add the chopped heart of palm and sauté for a few more minutes. 
    Add wheat flour and mix well. 
    Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly, until you get a homogeneous cream.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste. 
    Let the filling cool.
  • Open the dough with a rolling pin on a floured surface and cut circles with a cutter or the mouth of a glass. 
    Line pie molds with the dough, leaving one edge out.
  • Place a tablespoon of filling in each mold.
  • Roll out the rest of the dough and cut circles to cover the pies. 
    Close the pies by pressing the edges with a fork and make a small cut in the lid so that the air escapes during cooking.
  • Brush the egg yolk over the pies and bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 30 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Serve hot or cold.
