EU diplomacy chief calls Trump’s NATO speech “silly”

The head of European Union diplomacy, Josep Borrell, declared this Monday (12.Feb.2024) that former US President Donald Trump’s speech about NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) is a “silly idea”. Borrell said the entity is not a “a la carte alliance” where the US chooses who it will defend. Trump declared on Saturday (10.Feb.2024) that the North American country would not protect members of the military alliance who were not honoring their commitment to allocate 2% of GDP (Gross Domestic Product) to defense. At the time, Trump encouraged Russia to do “whatever the hell you want” with these countries.
