Espriella suspends Colombia’s presidential transition and launches accusations against Gustavo Petro

The elected president of Colombia, Abelardo de la Espriella, determined, this Tuesday (7), the suspension of the transition process with the government of Gustavo Petro.
In a post on the X network, Espriella said he instructed the vice-president-elect, José Manuel Restrepo, to stop the transition, accusing the Petro administration of “destroying Colombia”. “My duty is to protect the nation’s interests and guarantee a serious and transparent transition that serves all Colombians, never legitimizing disaster or disrespect for the constitutional order,” stated the president-elect.
In the post, Abelardo stated that, in the midst of the transition process, he had found evidence of corruption and “targeted contracts” during the Petro government, but did not give details. The inauguration is scheduled for the 7th.
Petro reacted, on the same social network, calling De la Espriella “unprepared”. According to him, the transfer of power will continue “before the people” until midnight on August 6th.
“Those who withdraw from the transition process are those who cannot bear the public testimony of their lack of preparation and the slanderous nature of their public insults,” he said.
“What is coming is an almost totalitarian authoritarianism, given the power that Abelard has acquired so far in the courts and in Congress. Fascism is coming, and fascism is not something that can be tolerated; it needs to be defeated”, Petro pointed out.
The Colombian president has maintained that Abelardo was “elected from abroad, with votes that did not exist, in a percentage automatically adjusted by algorithms created by private Israeli companies with the approval of his genocidal government”.
