To make this Chocolate Mousse, use the ingredients from the list below and follow the step-by-step instructions!
Ingredients
200g semi-sweet chocolate (or milk chocolate, if you prefer less intense)
3 eggs (yolks and whites separated)
3 tablespoons of sugar
1 pinch of salt
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
1 teaspoon vanilla essence (optional)
1 cup fresh cream (or cream)
Chocolate shavings or cocoa powder for decoration (optional)
Directions
- Melt the chocolate in a double boiler or in the microwave in short bursts, stirring to ensure it doesn’t burn.
Add the butter and mix well until smooth. - If desired, add vanilla essence to the melted chocolate and mix.
- In a bowl, beat the egg yolks with 2 tablespoons of sugar until the mixture is fluffy and light.
- Add the melted chocolate to the beaten egg yolks and mix well until everything is combined.
Reserve. - In another bowl, beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt.
When they start to get firm, add the remaining spoon of sugar and continue beating until stiff peaks form. - Carefully incorporate the egg whites into the chocolate cream, using soft and delicate movements so that the mousse becomes airy.
- In a third bowl, beat the fresh cream (or cream) until firm peaks form.
- Incorporate the whipped cream into the chocolate and egg white mixture, again using gentle movements to maintain the lightness of the mousse.
- Distribute the mousse in individual glasses or on a large platter.
Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to firm up. - Before serving, decorate with chocolate shavings or cocoa powder, if desired.
