
China declared this Thursday (25) that it is willing to provide assistance to Venezuela following the earthquakes that hit the country on Wednesday night (24). In response to Brazil in factthe spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Guo Jiakun, reported that the aid will be articulated according to the needs presented by the Venezuelan authorities.
āThe Chinese side is willing to provide assistance within its capabilities, in an appropriate manner, according to Venezuelaās needs,ā the spokesperson said at a press conference.
The Chinese government stated that it is closely monitoring the situation after the earthquake that hit Venezuela and that it maintains communication with the Chinese Embassy in Caracas. According to Guo, so far, there is no record of Chinese citizens among the victims of the tragedy.
āChina has taken note of reports about the earthquake in Venezuela and expresses sincere condolences to the Venezuelan government and the affected people,ā said the Foreign Ministry spokesperson.
Guo also declared that Beijing trusts Venezuela’s ability to overcome the moment of emergency. āChina is convinced that, under the leadership of the Venezuelan government, the Venezuelan people will certainly be able to overcome the disaster and rebuild their homes as soon as possible,ā he said.
Meanwhile, Venezuelan rescue teams remain mobilized in the affected areas, searching for survivors, removing rubble, assessing damage and providing assistance to families affected by the collapse of residential structures. This Thursday morning, the Venezuelan government confirmed that the death toll had reached 164.
International solidarity
China’s demonstration adds to other declarations of international solidarity with the Venezuelan people following the earthquake.
Mexico and Colombia were among the first Latin American countries to speak out. The Mexican government offered humanitarian aid and emergency teams, while Colombia opened coordination channels with Caracas to identify the most urgent needs. The United States, Russia, Cuba and several European countries also expressed support for the Venezuelan authorities and made resources available to assist in response and reconstruction operations.
International organizations are also monitoring the situation. The United Nations (UN) and the Red Cross monitor the emergency and participate in efforts to coordinate humanitarian assistance to the affected areas.
Lula activates Itamaraty to support response to Venezuela
President Luiz InĆ”cio Lula da Silva expressed solidarity with Venezuela after the earthquakes and stated that he received the news with āgreat concern and consternationā.
āI have instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to evaluate, together with the Brazilian embassy in Caracas, the situation in the country and the assistance measures that Brazil can adopt,ā said Lula.
The guidance involves Itamaraty and the Brazilian embassy in the Venezuelan capital, which remain in contact with local authorities to monitor impacts and possible emergency demands.
