A NPR (National Public Radio), from the United States, announced this Tuesday (April 16, 2024) the suspension of senior editor Uri Berliner. The journalist published an article on April 9 on the online news website The Free Press where he states that the vehicle favors left-wing ideas and “lost America’s trust”. Berliner’s unpaid suspension, which will last for 5 days, has been in effect since Friday (April 12). David Folkenflik, media correspondent for NPRstated that Berliner’s article “prompted NPR leaders to announce monthly internal reviews of the network’s coverage and gave new ammunition to conservative Republican critics.”
In March, the NPR announced Katherine Maher as public radio’s new executive director. Maher has already been questioned for publicly criticizing former president Donald Trump on X (formerly Twitter) in 2020.
In an interview with Folkenflik last week, Berliner stated that Maher was “practically incapable” of driving the vehicle. “We’re looking for a leader right now who will unify and bring more people into the tent and have a broader perspective on what America is all about.”he stated.
