First lady says she is “devastated” by the scenes of Israel’s attack on Palestinian civilians awaiting humanitarian aid

First lady Rosângela Lula da Silva, known as Janja, said she was “desolate” with images of the Israeli army attack on Palestinians this Thursday (29.Feb.2024). At least 112 civilians were killed and 760 injured while awaiting the delivery of humanitarian aid, according to Palestinian officials. Janja also called for a ceasefire.

“Devastated by the cruel scenes and total disrespect for the right to life. In desperation not to die of hunger, women, children and innocent civilians are shot to death in line to receive humanitarian aid in Gaza. A ceasefire is urgent!” declared in Publication on X (formerly Twitter).

According to the Al Jazeera, the Israeli attack took place in southwest Gaza. The Palestinians were waiting for a flour truck. Since the start of Israel’s attacks, food availability has drastically decreased in the Gaza Strip.

A report from the UN Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (United Nations) warned, on Wednesday (Feb 28), that 1 in 4 residents of the region is at risk of facing extreme hunger. The council said a scenario of widespread famine is “almost inevitable” in the face of Israel’s blocks to the arrival of supplies.

According to the newspaper, the victims were taken in trucks, as ambulances were unable to reach the scene because the roads were blocked. “totally destroyed”. They were taken to 4 medical centers: al-Shifa, Kamal Adwan, Ahli and Jordanian hospitals.

The death toll is expected to rise, as hospitals are already overloaded and are unable to provide support to all victims. More than 30,000 Palestinians have died since the conflict began.
