President Lula participated, on Monday (30), in meetings with businesspeople and heads of state from Latin America in Mexico. He arrived on Sunday (29) in the capital Mexico City, where he will remain until Tuesday (1) for the inauguration of the first president in the country’s history, Claudia Sheinbaum.
On the first agenda of the day, Lula was at the opening of the Brazil-Mexico Business Seminar, which aims to improve the commercial relationship between the two countries, which together represent 65% of Latin American GDP. The president highlighted the “virtuous” growth of Brazilian GDP – “the fruit of a lot of work” – and the need to strengthen trade relations.
“We are the two largest economies in Latin America, we export US$ 8.5 billion, we import US$ 5.5 billion, our flow reached US$ 14 billion and a little more, we win 340 million inhabitants, that our economy is almost US$4 trillion and larger than that of Germany”, said Lula during the event held by the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil).

On that occasion, a memorandum was also signed to strengthen relations in the aerospace sector between Embraer and the Mexican Federation of the Aerospace Industry and an agreement in the commercial area between ApexBrasil, the National Confederation of Industries (CNI) and COMCE.
The Brazilian delegation is also working to deepen two Economic Cooperation Agreements, one that provides for the elimination or reduction of import tariffs for around 800 tariff positions and another that establishes free trade for the automotive area.
Representatives from companies such as Natura, Marcopolo, Bimbo, Nestlé, Femsa, Inbev and Oxxo, as well as companies from the agricultural and automotive sectors participated.
After the Seminar, Lula met with Mexican businesspeople. According to the Brazilian Central Bank, 149 companies with Mexican capital operate in Brazil in various sectors, such as telecommunications (América Móvil, controlling company Claro, Net and Embratel), steel (Grupo Simec), beverages (Coca-Cola FEMSA ), retail (OXXO) and food (Bimbo and Lala groups).
Heads of State
Afterwards, the Brazilian president was received with other Latin American leaders at a lunch hosted by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, on his last day before taking over command of the country.
The Prime Minister of Belize, Johnny Briceño; the president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro; the president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel; the president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro; the president of Chile, Gabriel Boric; and the president of Guatemala, Bernardo Arévalo.
To finalize the agendas, Lula was in a meeting with president-elect Claudia Sheinbaum even before his inauguration.
