Steve Bannon was sentenced to 4 months in prison for contempt of the US Congress in a hearing in the case of the invasion of the Capitol
The United States Court ruled this Thursday (June 6, 2024) that Steve Bannon, Donald Trump’s former strategist, must serve his 4-month prison sentence from July 1, 2024. Bannon was convicted of contempt to Congress for not delivering documents and not testifying to the commission investigating the invasion of the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Sentenced in October 2022, Bannon remained free during the appeals process. However, after his appeal was rejected by a federal court in May, he must now serve his sentence. Bannon claims he is the target of a political lawsuit and has promised to appeal to the Supreme Court.
“All of this has to do with one thing: ending the Maga movement,” said this Thursday (June 6) referring to the movement “Make America Great Again”a slogan used in Trump’s campaign that means, in Portuguese, “Make America Great Again”.
In addition to the contempt conviction, Bannon faces charges of fraud, money laundering and conspiracy related to fundraising for the construction of the wall on the US-Mexico border.
Arrested in August 2020, Bannon was released after paying $5 million bail and later received a presidential pardon from Trump, hours before Joe Biden’s inauguration.
