Activists hung a banner at the Brooklyn museum with the phrase: “Free Palestine, give up genocide.”

Protesters in favor of Palestine occupied parts of the Brooklyn Museum, in New York (USA), on Friday (May 31, 2024) and hung a banner at the main entrance. Witnesses told the Reuters that some activists clashed with the police and people were arrested.

The banner at the top of the neoclassical facade read: “Free Palestine, give up genocide”.

“There was damage to existing and newly installed works of art in our square”a museum spokesperson told Reuters. “Protesters entered the building and our public security team was physically and verbally harassed”.

Hundreds of people were marching through Brooklyn when some of them stormed the museum’s entrance. Security guards prevented many from entering, but some managed to reach the scene.

The pro-Palestinian organization Within Our Lifetime said protesters occupied the museum to force it to disclose any investments related to Israel.
