In the United States, the United Auto Workers (UAW) union’s collective contract with Ford, General Motors (GM) and Stellantis ends on Friday (15). With no agreement so far, Shawn Fain, president of the union that represents 146 thousand people, has scheduled a live broadcast on social media with workers this Thursday (14), at 10 pm.
According to preliminary information, the automakers raised their proposals to close the agreement, but UAW representatives are already preparing strikes and new pickets at the factories.
Demonstrations have already been taking place in recent weeks following other strikes in the USA, such as those in Hollywood, employees of fast food chains and even hospitals. As pointed out by Sheetat least 270 strikes of different categories have already taken place in the country this year.

If the strike at automakers happens, experts indicate that the strike could be unprecedented, being the largest in recent generations. The president of the UAW has already made statements to this effect and promised a strike “like you have never seen before”.
In addition to improvements in terms of pensions, benefits and reduced working hours, the union is initially fighting for a 40% increase in salaries.
As reported, GM reached an offer of a 20% salary increase this Thursday, following the offer that Ford had already offered.
