Missiles and debris hit warehouses and residential buildings; Mayor asks residents to take shelter

The mayor of Kiev, Vitaliy Klitschko, announced that new Russian attacks hit the Ukrainian capital this Thursday (20.Aug.2026), considering local time, leaving at least 4 injured and one dead. The announcement was made through its official Telegram channel.

According to Klitschko, who urged residents to take safe shelter, Kiev is under attack by ballistic missiles that have hit several districts.

The impacts directly affected the electrical grid, leaving parts of the Svyatoshynskyi and Solomyanskyi districts without power, while sector teams investigate the causes of the shutdowns.

In the Solomyanskyi district, one of the hardest hit, multiple emergency calls were registered. A 9-story residential building was damaged and caught fire, while a second 5-story building had its windows broken and the surrounding area hit by fire after falling debris.

Klitschko also reported that damage was reported at a children’s hospital and cases of people trapped in buildings and shelters.

In other parts of the city, the damage is concentrated in commercial and service facilities. In Svyatoshynskyi and Darnytskyi districts, the attack caused the destruction of non-residential buildings and caused large fires in warehouses. Rescue teams, first responders and firefighters continue to travel to respond to incidents in all affected locations.
